MasterCard Worldwide was officially named thus in 1979. After running a successfully competitive campaign against Visa, MasterCard wanted to acknowledge the wider field of operations it has now ventured into. MasterCard offers debit, credit and prepaid options for it's customers and is issued by banks all over the country and world. The relatively recent introduction of MasterCard's PayPass system, where customers can tap a payment card or key fob on a payment device instead of having to slide their card, promises to take MasterCard well into the future.
